Elij(z)ah Wyatt - born APR/23/1821 in AL, died SEPT/28/1901 in Newton County, MS. Buried in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in the Conehatta Community.

Researching in the Newton Co. library, I found Our Wyatt-Mitchell and Allied Families, A Research Report by E. Myrtle Mitchell McNair, written in May 1974. The Elijah Wyatt information is in this report. However, Ms McNair wrote that during the life time of her great grandmother, Mary H. Wyatt Mitchell, there was a close relationship between her and Elijah and according to her father he was a cousin, but didn?t know how. In the Neshoba Co. library I found a book that tells of the line of Joseph MITCHELL. William Dawson Mitchell, second child of Joseph & Nancy Mitchell, born APR/01/1826, married Mary Harriot Wyatt on DEC/23/1847 in Bibb Co., AL. She was born SEPT/20/1828 in NC. They had 8 children born between APR/07/1849 & OCT/20/1863. This book states that their son, John Franklin Mitchell, talked them into moving and homesteading in Newton County, Conehatta, MS. They stayed only a few months, became homesick, sold their crop in the field, and returned to Bibb Co., AL. This is not entirely true. Some of the family may have returned, but Mary Harrriot Wyatt Mitchell did not. She is buried in the Conehatta Methodist Church Cemetery. I feel that Elijah Wyatt came to Conehatta with the Mitchell family. Would love to find out how Elijah Wyatt and Mary Harriot Wyatt Mitchell were related.

Elijah Wyatt was the son of William Conquest "Bucky" Wyatt, born 1796 in GA, died 1852, & Miriam Wright, born 1797 in the Netherlands and died 1850 in AL. They married in Jasper Co., GA on NOV/19/1815. They are buried in Chestnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Cooper, Chilton Co. AL.

Conquest was the son of Edward Wyatt. Edward was the son of Haute Wyatt (Rev.).

Emily was obviously married to a CAMPBELL first. The only CAMPBELL family I could find in the Newton County census was Samuel & Letitia CAMPBELL. They had several children, among these were 3 sons: John, Lorenzo & Arthur. Could Emily have been married to one of these CAMPBELL sons?

Amanda?s brother Floyd BROWN, lived with them & is buried next to them.

Ammort (Bud?) Wyatt - married Edna WILLIAMS. No children. Both buried in the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton Co., MS. (I have not found a record of Ammort, but found E. W. "Bud" Wyatt, born MAY/15/1885 died AUG/23/1960 and Edna Williams, born JAN/15/1884 to JUL/07/1971. Both buried at the Evans Tabernacle Church of God.

Bertha Wyatt - born, FEB/27/1885 died MAY/30/1959. Married James Albert GOSS on MAR/29/1902. He was born JUN/05/1879, died OCT/29/1961. Both buried in Erin Cemetery in Newton Co., MS.

Truly Wyatt - died young from blood poison.

Roxie Wyatt - Civil Service Employee. Died 1 year after retirement. Never married. No children. Family story goes that she lived & died in Winter Haven, FL. After Elijah died, her mother, Emily, went to FL to live with Roxie. Emily probably died there also. Burial place for both Roxie & Emily is unknown.

The family lived in Winter Haven.  (I was fortunate to find the daughter of Thomas, Brandon Lanyon, who lives in CA, by posting a message on a genealogy site. She visited me & in return sent me plane tickets to visit her in CA. I not only found family, but a life long friend who is also interested in tracing the family.)
